Support / Voice / Phone / Grandstream

Configure Grandstream IP phones and ATAs for VoiceTel.

Grandstream GRP series desk phones (GRP2604, GRP2615, GRP2624) and HT80x analog telephone adapters use a near-identical Account configuration menu. Provision per-device via the web UI or via Grandstream GAPS (Auto-Provisioning Service) for fleets.

GRP series desk phones

  1. Press Menu → Status → Network Status to find the IP.
  2. Open http://<phone-ip>. Sign in (default admin / random password printed on the phone's barcode sticker).
  3. Open Accounts → Account 1 → General Settings.
  4. Set:
    • Account Active: Yes
    • Account Name: short label
    • SIP Server: the SIP server host shown in your customer portal
    • Secondary SIP Server: if VoiceTel onboarding gave a secondary, enter it
    • Outbound Proxy: the SIP server host shown in your customer portal (same as primary)
    • SIP User ID: the SIP username from VoiceTel onboarding
    • Authenticate ID: same as SIP User ID
    • Authenticate Password: the SIP password from VoiceTel onboarding
    • Name: caller-ID display name
  5. Open Network Settings (still under Account 1):
    • NAT Traversal: Keep-Alive
    • SIP Transport: UDP
  6. Open SIP Settings → Basic Settings:
    • Register Expiration: 6 (minutes, i.e. 360 seconds)
  7. Open Audio Settings → Codec Settings. Move PCMU and PCMA to the top of the preferred list.
  8. Save and apply.

HT80x ATAs (analog telephone adapter)

HT801, HT802, HT812, HT814, HT818 expose the same Accounts menu but with one account per FXS port. Configuration is otherwise identical:

  1. Open http://<ata-ip>. Default password printed on the device sticker.
  2. Open FXS Port 1. Apply the same fields listed above for the GRP phones.
  3. For multi-port HT812/HT814/HT818, repeat per port with the corresponding line credentials.
  4. Save and apply.

Test by plugging an analog handset into FXS Port 1 and dialing a test number.

Fax over T.38 (HT8xx)

Plug a fax machine into an FXS port instead of a handset. Open FXS Port N → Audio Settings:

  • Fax Mode: T.38 (Auto Detect)
  • Re-INVITE After Fax Tone Detected: Yes
  • Jitter Buffer Type: Fixed (better for fax than Adaptive)

Send a test fax. The ATA detects the CNG tone, sends a SIP re-INVITE switching media from G.711 to T.38, and negotiates the fax session over UDPTL.

Auto-provisioning

Register the device MAC at https://fm.grandstream.com/gs (Grandstream's GAPS portal); point GAPS at your VoiceTel provisioning URL. Devices boot, hit GAPS, get redirected, fetch config, register.
